- Reading Comprehension: The biggest section. You read a text (one to several paragraphs) and answer questions on it. Every answer is in the text or follows directly from it, not from your own knowledge.
- Structure 1: Tenses: The most frequent Structure topic. Look for the time signal word: it usually decides the tense.
- Structure 2: Conditionals, passive, reported speech, modals: Structures with fixed patterns: learn the pattern and the question becomes direct.
- Structure 3: Words and grammar points: Quick one-rule questions: subject–verb agreement, articles, prepositions, pronouns, word forms and comparison.
- Structure 4: Short dialogues: Two-line dialogues: choose the reply that is right in grammar and in meaning.
- Memory kit: grammar on a page: Every STEP grammar point that gets asked, in short tables, with the signal words that give the answer away. Learn the signal words first: they are the fastest way to the answer.
- Listening Comprehension: You hear a conversation, an announcement or a short talk, then answer questions on it. The recording plays twice; the transcript appears after you answer.
